- crabbin_cabinExplorer III have taken, and recommend, I 70 to Limon CO then US 24 into Colorado Springs. Have stopped at Waukeeny KS many times as a night stop on that route.
- MartynNomadIf you have the time I agree with going on US36. Turn south on CO71, at Last Chance CO, to Limon and then US24 to Colorado Springs.
- CloudDriverExplorerOn our trip across route 36 in 2012, we stayed one night at Beacon Hill RV Park in ST. Joseph MO. Turned out to actually be in town, but it was a quiet night.
The next night we stayed at Prairie Dog State Park near Norton KS.
From there we took routes 383, 83 and 24 to pick up I70 near Colby KS.
If you are interested, there is a Pony Express Barn in Marysville KS one block off route 36. - TechWriterExplorerTx for advice, especially about HWY 36.
Any suggested campgrounds along this route? - lbrjetExplorerAm in Colorado Springs right now. Took I70 to 24. I70 across Kansas was an easy drive and 24 a bit bumpy. Recommend the KOA in WaKeeney, KS for an overnight. 300 miles to go from there.

As an alternative to the Interstates, consider route 36 across MO and northern KS. See this recent thread.
Agree. Neither one. Take 36. Smell the roses, or feed lots, along the way. Good quiet road.
One more for 36 -- been doing it for the last 10 years and it only gets better -- unlike I-70 or I-80.
BOL, - gwalterExplorer IIIYou can miss Denver by taking I-80 to I-76 to Brush Co and then south on CO 71 to Limon and US 24 to Co. Sprngs. The big drawback to 76 is that it is very rough from Julesberg to Brush. I-80 also has much heavier traffic than 70 west of KC.
- IvylogExplorer IIIBest ways to see Kansas... at night or from 30,000'. Take one out and the other back.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIILike others - take whichever one you're closer to but hope the one it is avoids Chicago and Denver. :) Have fun!!
