Jasper National Park route from Seattle.

Seattle to Jasper to Edmonton to Calgary and back to Seattle. I'm sure all major routes are fine.....but not that sure.
  • Definately do the icefields parkway. A bit out of the way but between Edmonton and Calgary, the Reynolds Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin and the Tyrrell Dinosaur Museum in Drumheller are definite worth sees. Okangan Valley, Kootenay NP, On your side of the border, Hwy 20 between Winthrop and Sedro Woolley is one of the great scenic drives. So many choices.
  • On the Tripadvisor forum it's ALWAYS suggested to take 93 both ways.. The highway between Edmonton & Calgary is flat & boring IMHO.

Here is a link for Tripadvisor : http://www.tripadvisor.ca/ShowForum-g154911-i221-Banff_Banff_National_Park_Alberta.html
  • I'm in no hurry. Just going for a drive to see the country. Probably in July and August. No real time frame or restrictions other than the size ofy rig and the roads. Don't need to see Edmonton but want to. I want to see wildlife also.
  • Are trying to get to Jasper as fast as you can or do you want to see a few things on the way?
From Hope BC take Hwy -1 all the way to Kamloops if you have to see Edmonton for some reason stay on Hwy -1 all the way to Lake Louise then up the ice field parkway to Jasper and on into Edm.
If you don't need to see Edm:
Still take Hwy-1 from Hope to Kamloops up the Frazer cayon to Kamloops then take Hwy -5 north up through Valemount on past Mount Robson and then into Jasper. Then head south on down the Ice Field parkway to Lake Louise then back on Hwy-1 to Banff and into Calgary.
    Soup
  • So now I'm thinking about forget 5 and take 1 to Cache Creek, Kamloops, to Lake Louise the up 93.
  • Good info. Thanks. So now I'm looking at....5N to 1E then 93N to Jasper. From there 16E to Edmonton, turn right on 2S to Calgary. Then continue 2S to 3W back to 5. If 93 is doable in my rig towing it looks like a good trip. Any "yah buts" ?
  • You can always take #1 to see Banff, then to Lake Louise,
then up through the Columbia Icefields to Jasper.
From there you head straight to Edmonton.
You can come back from Edmonton through to see Mt. Robson,
down the #5 Yellowhead to Kamloops.
From there you decide if you want to take the #1 through the
Fraser Canyon or the Coquihalla back to the coast.

It would be a beautiful trip and you would see it all.
  • yes all fine but keep in mind you cross major mountain ranges. Highway #3 is the most scenic highway in my opinion but not the fastest. #1 is probably the most travelled. For speed #5 to Edmonton.
