We did the southern part of the Lake Superior Loop in September 2015 in our 5th wheel. Some of the campgrounds/RV parks we stayed in included the US Forest Service's South Kawashiwi River CG south of Ely, MN (we also visited the Boundary Waters Canoe Area); Memorial Park CG in Washburn, WI to visit the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore; Ft. Wilkins Historic State Park on the tip of the Keewenaw Peninsula and Hurricane River CG at Pictured Cliffs National Lakeshore in MI.
Some of these campgrounds were fairly rustic, but all except the Pictured Cliffs NLS had some hookups. Even the Forest Service CG near Ely had 30A/50A electric hookups plus a single water faucet and dump for the CG.
We wanted to go up to Grand Portage and take the ferry out to Isle Royale National Park, but the weather turned nasty about that time, so we skipped it. We were planning to stay at Judge C.R. Magney State Park, which closes in early October. We didn't need reservations then, but apparently they are required all season now.
It really is a wonderful time of the year to visit Lake Superior, but you naturally need to be prepared for any kind of weather. So, have a great time on your trip!
