May 21 - Travel on Alaska Hwy not advised due to snowfall

Johnny, that was B.C. rain meeting Arctic air ... that equals snow. We had snow last weekend and today it is summer, too warm!

Well just thanks Sue, we were enjoying 80-90F until you sent that cold Yukon snow this way, barely made 50F today, sure a change from Monday for you as Petra sent some pics Mon. nite, and now we got rain for the next week????

In Denali at this time. They had snow 10 days ago. All roads are clear temps running 40 at night to low 60 in day.

The Alaska population changes about 65% every 5 years due to so many of the residents being there for a government job, with the military, or one of the other government agencies. Most residents know the day they arrive in Alaska, the day they are scheduled to leave. The military rotates most after 3 years, but some personnel after 1or 2 years.

This makes the Alaska population look like a parade, here today, gone tomorrow. As far as I know, PA12DVR may be the only forum member that was born in Alaska, Trackrig went to high school in Alaska in Nenana but not aware if he was born in the state or not..

At my age, metric and imperial are interchangeable.
Forecast had it all in metric BUT I translated to imperial for those who speak American :B

Most of the rigs heading north have Alaska plates, I've noticed.
Same with those heading south.

I was figuring Alaska must rotate its peoples once a year! :B

Temps into the mid 70s will be here by early next week - http://weather.gc.ca. There are a lot of rigs heading south on the highway right now, though - I don't think I've ever seen that in May before, so I think may people have decided to give up on us and try elsewhere. :(

Snowfall warning for Muncho Lake Park - Stone Mountain Park

Additional snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm tonight.

This is a warning that significant snowfall is expected or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..listen for updated statements.

A Pacific frontal system combined with an Arctic front from the north will continue to bring snow to the Fort Nelson region and Muncho Lake Park region tonight. Additional snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are expected tonight with the heavier amounts to occur along sections of the Alaska Highway close to the Rockies. The precipitation will end by Wednesday morning as the frontal system moves out of the region.

There's also a rain warning, with amounts up to 2" for the interior of B.C. Same system, but not meeting up with the Arctic front from the North.
