Missouri to Charlottesville Virginia

We have a 42 ft motorhome and will be travelling from Missouri to Charlottesville Virginia this week. I don't see many campgrounds along I 64 near Louisville, if anyone has any recommendations please let me know. Also West Virginia. Thank you.
  • It's probably too late to help the OP, but if you take I-65 south about 3-4 miles from I-64 you'll get to the Kentucky Convention Center and the old Six Flags amusement park. On the south lot there is camping available. It's just a glorified parking lot, but it has FHU spots.

I saw recently that the amusement is being rehabbed and will re-open, so I don't know how long the sites will be there. We've used them when attending the RVIA dealer show at the convention center. You'll get some noise from the airport around 2-4 a.m. when the UPS fleet is coming and going, but otherwise it's OK.
  • The KOA just north of Louisville is an okay overnight stay, but it's nothing to write home about. The last time we were there, there was lots of construction on I-65 just south of the campground. It's only about 6-7 miles from I-64.
  • Kentucky Horse Farm is in Lexington, KY not Louisville. There is a KOA in north Louisville just across the Ohio River.

Also in WV there is Fox Fire KOA in Milton WV just east of the KY border.
  • Kentucky Horse Farm on the north side of Louisville is a "destination", but you can use it as an overnight.

In summer 2014, we camped at Greenbrier River Campground, Sand Springs, West Virginia. It was a easy one-day trip from there to Louisville, so should be the same for eastbound travel.

(I don't evev see Sand Springs on my map, but it was not far from White Sulpher Springs.)

(Added 10/12): Opps, sorry about my Lexington/Louisville confusion.
