NEW 500 PESO BILL

Tomorrow Monday the 27th the Banco de Mexico is introducing new 500 peso bills, they are printed in plastic rather than cotton, I have not seen one, will probably get some come the first of next month when I have to make some payments.

I will up date, sorry I can not post any pictures at all, I get an error warning from a place in Texas for some odd reason, so I will describe the bill, or maybe one of you residing in Mexico can post a photo.

  • Still have currency from the 80-90s, LOL! Maybe adding more to my collection.

  • I hope they reduce the size of the 10 peso coin. Maybe make the ten peso coin slightly larger than a US quarter, then maybe coin an octagon pattern inside the round edge on the 20 peso coin. The 1 peso coin can be made smaller to make confusion with the 2-peso less of a hassle. Maybe solid silver color and eliminate the centavo coinage altogether?
  • The front is Benito Juarez and to the left is a scene of either a battle or some thing like that, the 500 on the top right shimmers green and changes color when you move the bill.

The reverse side has a depiction of grey whales and the Biosphere of El Vizcaino, and the 20.00 peso bill is going to be phased out and replaced by coin, I call all that loose change in the pockets "what else" pocket busters I am going to ask my sister in law to sew some reinforcements on the pants pockets just to carry the loot around.

I do not know when they will start phasing the 20.00 peso bills out, will advice.

P.S. I tried last night to post the photos, I am giving up even trying, I keep- getting an error message from somewhere in Texas, this thing was hacked in Texas some time ago and I lost everything to little squares, had it redone in México and it has never worked right, it now knows SpanGlish.
  • Check the Banxico website for obsolete dates. There was squawking about the +000 old bills then another round of noise when Nuevos Pesos bills were obsoleted. You'll also note new bills have different denomination lengths. This encourages wadding in my wallet. There are still quite a number of obsolete yet still legal tender Nuevos Pesos coinage in circulation.
  • I have never heard of a time limit for bills. Canadian pennies, yes, because they were no longer in the realm of actual money. Changes happen at the banks, where I live and paper bills or torn, get pulled and returned to a central place, but are replaced by the new ones. The plastic ones have been commonplace here for awhile now, so thin, one can have have a big wad of cash but never know how much until you count it, bill by bill. You have more money than you thought!
  • And remember, there will be a finite time remaining to turn in linen bills before they join the ranks of the obsolete. A young man in a corner tienda tried to palm off three linen 50 peso bills on me last year.
  • It will be interesting to see when they start coming out of the ATM's. Let's all post when we get our first.
