NM-26 Between Hatch and Deming, New Mexico

We are traveling south on I-25 in New Mexico from Socorro to Tucson. I can go through Las Cruces to I-10, or I can save almost 50 miles by taking NM-26 from Hatch to Deming. I use the Trucker's atlas and they don't show this as a trucker's route, but when I look on Google Earth it looks like a good road for a 42' motor home. Has anyone taken NM-26 in a big rig? Thanks....
  • I'm from Las Cruces - absolutely nothing wrong with 26 between Hatch and Deming - and the Mountain Directory has no warnings on it, either.

  • Use it all the time. Good road with light traffic. Only drawback is it is two lane, dead straight most of the way. USE YOUR HEADLIGHTS!
  • I just drove it Friday as I have relatives in Deming. Worst issue will be Semis traveling slow pulling hills and few places to pass safely. One slow down area at Nutt to 55MPH & NM State Patrol does work the highway as does the Deming police on their end. The travel plaza in Hatch has some really good Burritos, DEF at the truck pumps, & a free dump station.
  • I always use the Hatch route. BTW, Hatch chilies are the best anywhere. If you go through there Thurs-Sunday stop in to Sparky's restaurant.
