Today, Sunday before Labor Day, we braved the crowds and the traffic and drove the Pacific Coast Highway (1) from Monterey CA down to about 10 miles south of Big Sur. We were in a convertible--which is the best way to do the PCH--but were scouting the highway for future RV travels in our 2016 Winnebago ERA 70X. Among the hundreds of cars we passed on the side of the road or going the other way, we noted about 20 other convertibles, 4 Class B Sprinters, 7 Class C (brave souls), of which 3 were rentals, and Zero (0) Class A Motorhomes. So, Class A owners, is the PCH just too intense a drive for a Class A? It is nice, narrow and curvy and ascending and descending, is that too much for a Class A? Or are Class A owners smart enough to know to stay off the PCH during the height of Labor Day Weekend?

I politely disagree - a motorcycle is the best way to do the PCH.

I see nothing wrong with taking a class A on the PCH. I just use caution with oncoming traffic or common sense when driving. I personally try to stay off the highways on holiday weekends. I love retirement but understand that some have to travel during the holidays. JMO

No, we were doing 25 in the 55 with 45 cars behind us. Were you in the Class C that tried to turn around on the PCH near the River Inn parking lot and were pulled over by CHiPs?

AAAHH, the days gone by of a weekend drive on PCH in my MG. That was a long time ago. Back in the 60s with good roads and a lot less traffic.

But, did you have your left turn signal on the entire length of the PCH?

And put The Big Cummins to the floor up to 80mph any time there is a passing lane to move over into and let traffic pass?

We came down the PCH a few years back and camped at Big Sir. Then continued down and visited the Hearst Castle. Didn't even think that the road was too difficult. We did encounter some thick fog which made the drive a bit more challenging though. Plenty of turnouts to allow the speedsters to zip by. :)
