North Bay, Ontario

There is usually a chip truck by Riverside Park in Pembroke and another one 1/4 mi North in the shoping center lot on the west side of the street. Old school buses never die in Canada.

Used to be run out of a bus right at the end of the highway on the main dock and beside the Fish House - enjoyed on picnic tables on the dock. I think - as of this year - it is now run out of a building/restaurant at the same location.

Take the time to walk the waterfront in both directions - kind of a walk back in time (with the exception of all the yachts).

If you take the Ottawa route I would go through Pembroke and Petawawa. Pembroke has murals on the walls of buildings that are impressive. Petawawa has a military museum that is very interesting. Get off the bypasses and go through the few small towns. They are not huge problems for a MH and toad. I agree with Sudbury Science Center & Agawa Canyon as well as the Soo Locks boat tour. I haven't been there since 2013.

Ontario has a phenomena not seen in other parts of the world "The Chip Truck". East of North Bay are two pretty good ones on the south side of the highway, parking will handle 18 wheelers.

They have french fries (of course) and poutine (ff& cheese & gravy) plus most will do chicken burger, hamburger and some do fish as well.

When you pass thru Sturgeon Falls the tourist information on the west side of town has a free sewage dump..... left hand side (south) just after you cross the bridge.

Ottawa to the Sault is just over 800km or about 480 miles.

Killarney Provincial Park - often written as the Jewel of the Ontario Park System is arguably one of the most scenic landscapes in the Province. If you stick to your stated route of North Bay to Sault Ste. Marie it is not at all far off the route - and to miss it is to miss a lot. It would be southwest of Sudbury by about an hour and a half drive. The small campground at George Lake is as picturesque as you'll get anywhere - but you need to be aware that it does not have any hydro and is not big rig friendly. It is also incredibly popular and reservations made well in advance of your trip are advised. The town is as pretty as the park - and the local fish and chips have been written up in national magazines.

I agree that the route through Ottawa would be better than going anywhere near Toronto. Not sure what your interests are but don't overlook Science North in Sudbury. Out of S.S. Marie there is also the Agawa Canyon Rail tour, especially popular in the Fall.

Your welcome, but I'd make sure to get the visitors guides and read up on stuff that interests you. Actually, lots of times I call and I mention what I'd like to do. Usually, these places have an extra pamphlet on my interests.
