In early May, I will be traveling from Redding,CA to Lakeview,OR via 299 to Alturas and then 395 into Lakeview. I have never driven this route before. I have a 24' Class C Born Free. Are there any areas of concern? Any "must see" or "don't miss"?? Thanks!! M

The Alturas route the OP suggests is a good 2 lane with little traffic .
And an easy pull with little pressure to keep up .
i-5 is not as good from practical experience .
Unless Bend is your final desto .

Another way....north on I-5......take 97 @ Weed to Klamath Falls.....and 140 to Lakeview. Either road is good....should have no problems.

i have done that with a 4 door pickup pulling a 34' trailer. just plan on taking your time and enjoy... a couple of steep grades if you use the old routes. the new route has some moderate grades, nothing to worry about, unless you are near your vehicles max weight... then just slow down and shift down.

Thanks!!

My bad....I thought you said 299 between Redding and ARCATA....your road should be pretty good..some grades but nothing your rig can't handle.....Burney Falls is a worthwhile stop...overnight at Rush Creek Campground, if it's open.....Dennis

You'll do fine on 299..just take your time.....Dennis

I love driving country roads vs. freeways. Any areas that I need to be especially careful? :E
