Northern Va to Hagerstown Md

I'm leaving Friday early and looking for the best route. The last time I went to Yogi Bear in Hagerstown I took 95 to 270, trying to avoid all that mess. I live near 66 so I was thinking 66 to 81 and the cg is 1 mile off 81.

So here is my question, I've never been north on 81, what are the roads like as far as the hills, mountains.....

The other route is 66 to 15 and around Frederick Md you get off 15. I like traveling 15 but not sure what the roads will be like off 15. Thanks
  • You will hit some small rolling hills but nothing large. You could also try 15 north to 340 to 70
  • off 15 in the Frederick area you can just get onto I-70 to go west to hagerstown. 66 to 81 would be the easiest, probably not shortest, route.

I usually take the 15->340->70 route to the Hagerstown, MD area. Definitely less traffic.

actually you won't really have to worry about 340. 15 is the same as 340 in that area and accesses I-70 W.

  • Thanks for all the replies, I'm thinking the 15 to 70 west route, 66 to 81 I'll spend too much time on 66 just getting to 81. Thanks again!
  • Just got back a few hours ago and 234 to 66 to 81 was about as smooth as smooth could be and coming back the same.
  • abc40kids - Just curious, were you at Geowoodstock? We spent the weekend in Hagerstown as well.
