Palm Springs to Disneyland

We will be heading to Disneyland from Palm Springs. The best route looks like taking CA-60 west to CA-91 to CA-57. Are there any issues with this route I should be aware of? We'll be in a 30' class A with toad, arriving in Orange mid day to early afternoon during the week.

Thanks ahead of time your input.
  • I also live in Moreno Valley, using the I-60W to the I-91 will save you time and acid stomach state. The I10W transition ramp to the I-91W is alway backed up 7 days a week due to construction, this continues till the 91/60/215 inter-change, I know about this condition since I drive by it 6 days a week. I-60 in eastern Moreno Valley has a bit of hilly section that is a little windy and the road does get a little tight, stay in the right hand lane, this will give you the most room and not be next to the K-rail.
  • Thanks Karanavore (and everyone else) for the info. Should I merge right or left once on the 91?

"Back to the 60 to 91 route:
Freeway widening along the 91 thru downtown Riverside for a couple of miles, starting at the 60/91/215 intersection. After you make the transition to WB 91, start merging over a couple of lanes so you can continue straight."

The road construction info is of great help. I always check out Google maps street view, but you never know how old the photos are.
  • I commute from Moreno Valley to Anaheim. I agree with what everybody else has posted. Whichever way you come into OC is fine. The 60 to 91 is probably the shortest, time-wise and mile-wise. HIt Moreno Valley late morning/noon, after the rush hour. Whichever way you come, there is a lot of freeway work going on: Here's the highlights:
(If you take the 10 to the 215-South, there is freeway widening thru Colton along the 215 between the 60 and the 10.)
Back to the 60 to 91 route:
Freeway widening along the 91 thru downtown Riverside for a couple of miles, starting at the 60/91/215 intersection. After you make the transition to WB 91, start merging over a couple of lanes so you can continue straight. The sudden lane-ending confuses drivers and can cause a bottleneck.
More freeway widening: in Corona from the 15 to the 71.
Cal Trans is re-working the WB 91 Tustin Ave off-ramp, so WB traffic can slow suddenly as you approach the 55 transition.
Just a word about the express lanes on the 91: Avoid them. You need a pre-existing account and a transponder. There are no toll booths. And there is a CHP unit assigned specifically to the toll lanes during the day looking for speeders and vehicles without transponders. You can figure out what that means. The "free" portion of the 91 thru Anaheim canyon is nice and wide anyway.
Also, like Executive wrote, you can take the 55 south instead of the 57. If you do take the 55, get off at Katella Ave and go west to D-Land. Katella is a 6-lane "superstreet" (wide lanes, timed signals) which will take you straight to D-Land. I prefer that route because the 57 is so congested during the day.
  • Don't come in early on weekdays. Early afternoon is best to hit DL about 2 or 3p.
  • 91 is perfectly fine except during rush hour.
60 has a short 2 mile stretch east of Moreno Valley that winds a bit and can get occasional fog. This is the route I almost always take with my 5'er unless during a storm or rush hour. I-215 to 91 is also an option.
  • Never, ever take the 91 - it is the worst road to take. Take the 10 to the 57 or the 10 to the 60 to the 57 but never the 91. The 91 takes 6 lanes and makes two of them a toll express. Creates a huge bottleneck. We quit using the 91 years ago. Oh and the traffic picks up to unbearable around 3:00pm.
  • You'll have some traffic, especially on 57. Otherwise you shouldn't have a problem given your time frame. There's toll lanes on the 91 if there's traffic, otherwise just stay in the right lanes and it's free. If you do run into heavy traffic westbound on the 91, you can always drop south to I-5 via the 55 which is in Anaheim Hills. The 57, as you drop south, be sure to look for Anaheim Stadium on the right, a Kodak moment. Enjoy the amusement park and say HI to Mickey...:W.....Dennis
