Posey Lake - Hell's Backbone Road (Utah FR 153)

We have a reservation for Posey Lake Campground. I didn't really research how to get there :S , the Forest Service website only said "Accommodates RVs up to 24 feet in length" so I thought "great!". We have a small squaredrop (13ft) that we're towing with a family car (Honda Odyssey). We'd come from Escalante but looking more closely at the map I saw it's called "Hell's Backbone Road". :E It looks like the real Hells backbone region is father on towards Boulder, but are we going to make it up from Escalante? I'd hate to be stranded with a steaming radiator...
  • That's a good two lane road all the way thru the Hell's Backbone Bridge and on to Boulder. We were in Escalante a few weeks ago but did not go that way. We have never been to Posey Lake tho so I'm not sure what the feeder road is like, but generally Utah has good secondary roads.
We have spent several weeks in the Escalante area over the years. The lower Box Canyon trailhead is near there and is a nice trail and of course there is Hole in the Rock road which we've been down several times.
