Providence to PA on Monday morning - what path?

We are leaving Providence, RI at 7:30am on Monday, and are headed across I-80 in PA. Obviously, the most direct route is I-95, but we've had very bad luck with that route, and the timing is likely to...

When we travel from the Harrisburg PA area to Bangor ME, I always take I-81 N to I-84 east into New England.
And, I've gone through Hartford during rush hour during a rain storm in our 37' Southwind.
It wasn't that bad, not fun but not bad.
I think I-84 to I-81 & I-80 are your best route.
