Pueblo CO to Dumas TX. US-50/287

We will be in Colorado city on the 4th of Nov. and I am thinking of taking Us-50 to Lamar CO and 287 into Amarillo instead of going over Raton pass on I-25. I would like any info on this route. I have taken 287 to Dumas then we usually turn west to Raton. I did a google maps search and it looks much like the terrain across the Texas panhandle. Also is there an easy fuel stop in Lamar. Thanks for any info...John

    Yuh, No need to mess with Raton this time of year...it's the route truckers use...flat and little traffic

    Lots of small town type traffic ... La Junta, Rocky Ford, etc. The highway is mostly good, some patches of rough road. Plenty of fuel stops in Lamar, such as Loves.
