puerto penasco issues

I read something which I'm not quite sure the State Depatrment was referring to, or not, but that was possibly aimed at pregnant women traveling to Mexico and south, including most of South America; this concerned possible poor development of babies, where many women who had contracted this malady delivered babies with markedly smaller heads than normal, which often means smaller brains. This all seems to stem from a disease spread by either of two types of mosquitoes which are thriving in warmer temperatures.

We took the trailer and the furry kids down for New Years from Dec 28 to Jan 3 and had no, heard of no and saw no problems. We have been to RP many many times and never had any issues worse than too much Ceviche and Tequila. Stay in the main tourist areas, The Malecon, Sandy Beach and Cholla Bay and you will have a great time. When you get to Sonoyta there will be a liquor store named Vasquez on the left, at the big curve, about 2 miles from the border. Right next to it is a lttle broken down trailer that sells the beat tacos you will ever have. Do not be frightened by the appearance of the trailer,everything is very good and very clean. We eat there every time we go down. Have a great trip.

Our friends go to PP/RP a couple of times each year. They were just there for several weeks before the holidays.

They have never had any problems.

When you consider how many Americans travel back and forth to Mexico and you only hear about a few who have experienced trouble it really seems just as safe as travel in the US or Canada.

What has to be taken into consideration is that virtually every city in the world has neighborhoods that tourists should avoid. It is also important to note that bad guys like to stay under the radar of the police and therefore usually avoid the tourist areas because that is where the local economy gets a large portion of it's money and the police are very protective of that area to our benefit. While this includes Mexico, I have found this to be the case world wide. As I said before, we have been going to RP for about 25 years and never had a problem or felt unsafe. Be smart, be safe and have fun.

The recent warning is actually kind of funny. It shows that this is not current information. It is an aggregate work that gets added to but never has anything deleted or modified. In the words of a consulate official to me in person "it is written for the lowest denominator of the American traveling public, it is akin to a mother saying to their kid ""look both ways before crossing the street"", ". They reference an issue in Vicam which has been setteled for months and the Indians now have their water rights back. That "ad hoc" roadblocks warning should therefore be removed - but it will stay there forever because the minimum wage person writing this BS doesn't have the courage or the where-with-all to do research. It is just a fable. Every country has trouble spots. Mexico should warn against travel to the USA after a news article pointed out that in the first 10 days of 2016 over 100 people have been shot in Chicago, a lot of them died as a result. Mexico does not think that their people are too stupid to know where to go and what to do, they give a little bit of credit to their traveling public.
The article is a warning for all of Mexico. I would like to compose an article for all of America based on a few cities. We just went for a 2 hour walk from our house in the barrio to the rich part of town on the beach and back, everyone we came across said "buenos dias" to us and everyone was friendly as they prepared for their day. If you want to believe that your GVT has your best interest in mind and is infallible in its dealings with you - then you may want to stay home. From our point of view down here I wouldn't bet on that scenario.
