Ramona CA to Needles CA

As the titles says I’ll be traveling from Ramona CA to Needles CA and I’m trying to determine the best route. It looks like 78 is off limits to over 40ft, I have a 42ft, part of the way if I take 78 to 86.
Looks like I can go 78 to 79 at Saint Ysabel safely, but I don’t know how good or bad 79 is.
Or maybe take 78 to 15 but I’m going through San Pasqual Valley and I’m not sure how that is.
Any advice on route to take would be appreciated.

When I did this route I preferred heading out to the 15 and then out to the 40. Yes, it is longer. Not sure when you are going, but it's obviously hot too. I'd leave at 4am. I'm not in a hurry first day out.
I went the inland way once. Too much two lane with semis. 15 to 40 has the one significant grade up to Victorville. I try to hit that by 6am. Anytime we went in summer I'd hit the road as early as I could to minimize the heat and traffic.
