Road closed for Winter

If a road has a barricade on it, saying "Road Closed for Winter", and the date is April 3rd, which is officially part of the Spring season in the Northern Hemisphere... shouldn't whoever placed that barricade either open the road, or update the sign??

Many years back we needed a crew in northern (Schefferville) Quebec for a few days.

One of our employees mentioned his son who was in college at the time was on break and he and a few from his rugby team would be happy with the money and the adventure.

They showed up in a rented van wearing, and packing, nothing more than shorts and T-shirts. It was well below freezing and driving snow up there.

By the time they bought warmer clothes I doubt they actually made any money.

What would they update the sign to say? "Road Closed for Spring." And if it said that, would that mean it would have to stay closed until the end of June? How about "Road Closed Until it isn't Closed No More."

I spent yesterday skiing nearly a freshly fallen foot of "spring"! Last fall, I skied many days with lots of new "autumn" before the winter solstice.

Remember that just because it seems spring has come early there could be another snowstorm that could change plans.

When the DOT changes the sign then you will know.

WSDOT will have to wait a month or two before they change this `closed for winter` sign. WA20 North Cascades Hwy. More photos on the Flickr WSDOT photostream.

Would you feel better if they changed the wording to Closed because of winter ?

Why do people have to question something like this? The road is closed, period!!

I think that depends on the level of snowfall more than dates. I know there are roads here in WA State that don't normally open until late May or early June. Frustrating if you're trying to plan a trip through those areas.

North Cascades, and 410??
