Rottweilers and RV's

Where is your projected trip going?

Well I'm a little biased but you can not beat a Rotti for a traveling companion.
Never had problem accessing any campground so far.

How smart are they....if I'm not in the drivers seat she is and I'm sure if she had longer legs she could drive.

I had a Dachsund once that could put any big dog to shame - he was afraid of nothing, even tried to chase horses. He once chased two St. Bernards down the road. Thing is, he was little, so you could just grab him and pick him up if he was bad, so every one thought his badness was cute.

I have a Blue Heeler now that everyone loves, but she's sent two other dogs to the vet for stitches (both were mine, food related stuff, I now watch her like a hawk). She's very dominant and I would trust a Rottie over her. I was asked to take her by the humane society that I sometimes work with, as she was too much for a regular home. So, it's not just these bigger "dangerous" breeds that have the potential to do harm. In fact, any dog can and will bite if scared or irritated enough.

I maintain, however, that cats are worse and the only reason they don't eat us is that they're too small. :) (Have 4 cats, love em all.)

We made it to Haines, AK yesterday (July 20th) and have had no problems yet. Everyone is very nice and Canada at least seems very dog friendly. No dogs on beaches seems common, but the further into the heart of the country, the less people seem to care or enforce the rule. I would say if you are responsible and keep your dog under your control and clean up after them, you won't run into any problems either. Having a great trip. My eyeballs are worn out from staring at non stop gorgeous scenery the whole way. Things could be worse!

It's because of their known to be potentially vicious breed reputation. The other at-risk breeds are: Pit Bulls, German Shepherds, and Dobermans. I would avoid any RV park that allowed them - if that gives you an indication of why the parks may be turning you away, it's also driving RVers away. Which hurts their business. My city designates the same stipulation on these exact breeds, because of their known history.

Very Hansom! Seems like an awfully broad law and subject to the whims of individual officers. Guess we won't be visiting either. Thank you for the heads up Vic46.

We won't be visiting Ontario with my boy. Many think he is a pittie, NOT! He's a traditional bonemouth SharPei.

Some ask me what we did to his ears!?

Pit Bull
The primary dog law in Ontario that bans specific canines is part of the Dog Owners' Liability Act. The thrust of the dog ban is aimed specifically at pit bulls. A grandfather clause in the legislation, which came into effect in 2005, permits owners who had pit bulls prior to the enactment to keep their animals. However, the law also requires that owners sterilize the pets and always leash and muzzle the animals when away from home.
Pit Bull Relations
Other dogs closely related to the pit bull breed are covered by the law that bans pit bulls. According to the Ministry of the Attorney General for Ontario's website, three other specific breeds are included in the ban. The Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier and the American pit bull terrier are all prohibited breeds.
Dangerous Dogs
Dogs in Ontario that pose a threat to people are banned, no matter which breed they belong to. This means that any dog that has bitten a person in the province could potentially be declared dangerous. This results in court-mandated protective measures, which could include a court order for the destruction of the dog.
Dogs that Look Like Pit Bulls
An important distinction in the law in Ontario is that a dog falls under the pit bull law even if it is not a pit bull but could be mistaken for one. This gives lawmakers and enforcement officers the right to declare a dog illegal if it resembles the breed, even if its bloodline does not conform to the breeds already mentioned. Unless an owner can prove that his dog is purebred and belongs to a breed not related to the pit bull, the owner could be at risk of losing any dog that closely resembles a pit bull.
