I absolutely hate rte 81 through PA on my way north to NY. I recently did it and the truck traffic is ridiculous. But even worst than that is the condition of the road. I can only imagine what is happening on the inside of my trailer as I hit bump after bump. I will be headed back to NC in a couple of weeks and I am thinking about using rte 11 through PA. Does anyone have any wisdom to share with me on your rte 11 experience. Definitely not interested in 95. Coming down from Albany on 88 to 81.
I ran route 11 as an alternative to 81. No worse than any two lane black top. Lots of towns and reduced speeds. and you know Pennsylvania, been no road alignment since 1786,so you have no shoulders sharp turns and no building setback. However if you hate interstates as I do and you are patient driver,it is a good drive.
Lived in Chambersburg for over 50 years. If you like stop signs, traffic lights, horrible intersections, folks having no idea where they want to enter a parking lot, have at it. I'll run I-81 any time!
