We use 209 often. Get off I/84 at the first exit in PA (might be 54) take 209 to I/80 to PA 33 to I/78 (avoid taking PA 22) to I/81. You are only on 209 for 40 - 50 miles but it's a nice ride. You also avoid PA's mountains which can be foggy and have a greater chance of ice or snow, depending on when you're traveling.

US 209 is basically a two lane road. It's been a few years since I was in the Water Gap area. I was in our 37' Southwind. No problems.
Following 209 will take you through small towns, traffic, etc..
No problems, just not real fast. I think you will enjoy the ride.

When you get to Pottsville, stop at the Yuengling Brewery, America's Oldest Brewery. Izxt's an interesting tour.

You can pick up Interstate 81 west of Pottsville.

Ran it all the way through Northbound in July and back South in August in a 3500 with a 35' fiver on the back. No problems and much more scenic than the Interstates. Slower, of course, but not that much longer on the day (Gettysburg to Accord and return) on the way to and from New England/NS-NB.

You may get a low clearance warning on the Metro North Commuter underpass in Port Jervis. The actual (measured by Public Works) minimum clearance at the South edge of the road is 13'-7" and slightly more at the North edge. Semis do it all the time. There is a bypass using Water Street and Main Street.
