- BumpyroadExplorerwell I don't know when you plan this trip but I just made two trips thru Richmond on 95, put it in center lane and drove thru with no issues at all. towing big I might consider going around depending on your comfort with slightly crowded and curvy roads.
bumpy - BumpyroadExplorerand when approaching Richmond, I frequently get on the CB radio and ask oncoming truckers what traffic is like on 95 thru town. Oh, with a magic smart phone you can always CALL SAUL. :)

The last time we went through there the roads were kind of chewed up. Is 295 a viable option or have they fixed it.
we have started using 95 straight thru...quicker then the 295 bypass..traffic if heavy only heavy for about 15 minutes or so....Chuck - BumpyroadExplorer

No problem driving the car. TV and FW, not so good. Lots of teeth jarring events in the right lane, fewer in center and left hand lane, but can't drive there all the time.
I have driven thru staying in the center lane all the way and usually do so. yes, stay out of the right lane but that is true for any busy road with lots of mergers on and exiting.
bumpy - phillygExplorer IINo problem driving the car. TV and FW, not so good. Lots of teeth jarring events in the right lane, fewer in center and left hand lane, but can't drive there all the time.
- dcasonExplorerThank you...good to know.
Donna - jerseyjimExplorerI-295 is a nice bypass. I HATE getting back on I-95 (southbound) because it is a left lane entrance. However, I found that I-95 thru Richmond isn't too bad...the one really nice campground is right on I-95...a great overnighter or more.
- DrbolaskyExplorerI've used both routes - I-295 tends to have a bit less traffic. No real big difference in driving time, IMHO.
- JimFromJerseyExplorerI buzzed right straight through, southbound, on the Monday before Thanksgiving, at about 4 in the afternoon. Coming home the following Monday, I took the loop, at around 10PM, in the fog and rain. Both road surfaces seemed fine. Unless there's an accident, I'd just go straight through. Hell, it's only about 3 miles from one end to the other going through town. Plus, I think the old train station thingy is cool looking.
