I would also suggest you go online and order all the travel guides from the state tourism office of all the states you will be passing through. They can be a wealth of information with localized maps for the regions of the state. The route 66 guide books are also a must. I-40 has eaten up a lot of route 66. Stop in Williams AZ and do the Grand Canyon Railroad trip and stay in the campground there. Great place to sit for a few days.
