Route from north TX to Spokane, WA

We are planning a trip this summer to Spokane, Washington from north TX (we are a little north of the DFW area); would like suggestions for the best route. We would like to avoid mountain driving as much as possible (if possible). Will be in a 36' motorhome w/toad. Thanks for any advice & suggestions!
  • With the I84/US395 approach in mind, there's no shortage of ways to cross from I40 to I80/84:

    - I25 past the Colorado front range
    - US550, 191, 6 Abq - Cortez - Moab - Price - Provo
    - US89 Flagstaff - Page - I15 SLC
    - US93 LV - Twin Falls
    - US95 LV - Reno - Ontario
  • OK, POST ALERT: This is just for fun.

You have got some good recommendations. I can't help remembering our trip last Summer. You would NOT want to follow it, but it was great for us. I'll just highlight some points along the way:

Paris, TX; Wichita Falls; Raton, NM; Gunnison, CO; Back to Colorado Springs; Denver; Cheyenne; Casper; Big Timber, MT; Glacier Park; and then Spokane.

We spent an overnight at the Riverside State Park, north of the city. We saw a bit more of Spokane than we had planned because of one wrong turn that got us lost. We had to call the park to get new directions. Fortunately, we were just one block away from the street we needed.

Even further astray from the intent of this thread: we went on to the Oregon coast, down to Crater Lake, across Nevada and Utah and back to Colorado.

Hope you enjoy your trip as much as we did.
  • US395 has a couple of passes before Reno (north of Bishop and Mono Lake), and a hilly section in northern Oregon. The Washington portion is all divided (and would be used if coming from Southern Idaho, eg. US93).

Where do you pickup US395 from Vegas?

    OK let me correct myself.
I15 west to Hesperia,CA and 395 north Going from memory does not always work :o
  • I just did that two years back. I went up to 70 and thru Denver to Utah and up thru Idaho. I had to avoid the wildfires but the route was very pretty.

  • I like the route north from Las Vegas on 93 to I-84, north on I-82 then US 395 up to I-90. No real mountains but a long downhill grade at Emigrant Hill (Cabbage Hill) south of Pendleton. Not a problem for rigs of any size.
  • Any route north to I90 (e.g. I25), and then west. Sure there are some passes in Montana and Idaho, but those are freeway, with limited grades and a slow lane.
