Rt 50 in Ohio in winter

I am planning a trip to AZ from CT in late Jan to mid Feb and wanted to stop an see a friend in Athens Ohio. I will be driving a 4 wheel drive truck with no camper. In looking at the map 78 to 81 to 68 to 79 to rt 50 looks fairly direct. All are interstates except Rt 50. I know it can snow anytime and I am flexible to watch out for snow forecasts, but in general is RT 50 safe to travel in the winter months? Any thing to watch out for? Is there much traffic along Rt 50?
  • good road ,just watch the weather, might add couple hundred #,s sand bags just in case good for a bit more tracsion.
  • You could lessen the time on 50 by taking I-70W to I-77S and pick up 50W near Parkersburg, WV instead of your current route.
