RV park near North Augusta, SC

We are going to visiting my husband's army buddy in North Augusta and are looking for an RV park close by. My trailer life directory shows the closest parks are in Aikens. I have also googled RV parks for the area and haven't come up with much different. Is Aikens the closest RV park and if so which one of the two parks is better.
  • Is anyone familiar with Twin Magnolia RV park outside of North Augusta. Also what is the condition of SC 64 from Charleston toward North Augusta. Our fifth wheel is 12'9" so we don't want to encounter any low overpasses or bridges. Thanks.
  • With apologies to the folks of N. Augusta, SC. and Augusta, GA. the area isn't exactly a vacation mecca except for the second week in May when they hold the Masters golf tournament there. That week, everybody's front yard is a temporary RV park. There are, however, over 50 hotels/motels within 5 miles of Augusta along I-20 and at least some have large parking lots and may even have hookups. Maybe your husband's friend can make some calls.
  • I've stayed at Pine Acres Campground twice while working in Aiken and N. Augusta. Working long days, I just needed a place to park and the Passport America rate made it tolerable. For natural ambiance and price, there's no question. I'd choose one of the many C.O.E. parks along the lake and use my senior pass. Just depends on the amount of time that will actually be spent visiting in N. Augusta. Either way, enjoy your trip.
  • Sadly, as you've found out, there are few commercial RV parks in the greater Augusta area, and the ones that are there leave a lot to be desired.

As Recks noted above, there are quite a few COE and SP campgrounds up around Clark's Hill Lake (they only call it Lake Thurmond on the South Carolina side :) ) Some of the nicer ones are Petersburg and Ridge Road on the Georgia side and Modoc on the SC side of the lake. All of these are 45 minutes to an hour from North Augusta.

If you are active or retired military, or 100% DAV, there is also a really nice military campground on the lake. It's called Pointes West Army Resort.

    Have a safe trip!
  • We have driven through this State Park and it seemed like a good little get-away, but we have not stayed there.
    Aiken SP
Plus there are many COE and SP campgrounds around Lake Thurmond on both the GA and SC side about an hour or 2 away. Beautiful lake and it is full of water this year!
    Enjoy your stay.
