RV Propane

Having moved from from western Canada to the province of Nova Scotia I have found out that RV or Automotive propane fill locations in this province are virtually non-existent. The Tourist board publishes a brochure that shows propane being readily available however its only good for refillable or exchange tanks which is no good for a motorhome. The information is mis-leading. The major oil retailer, Irving, is no longer interested is providing RV propane due to the lack of trained staff and the costs involved. Superior Propane at the Bridgewater bulk facility are most uncooperative and will tell you they don't have the coupling to fill an RV. I offered them mine and they still refused. The only Canadian Tire on the south shore usually has the temporary summer garden centre erected in such a way as you cannot get near the pump. Managed to get near the pump in November and they told me it was broken, 90 days later and still broken and management is clueless. If you need RV propane buy it before you arrive in NS or stop in Truro as there is still Classic tool rentals who pride themselves in still knowing how to provide good customer service.

Most propane companies in the US do not fill RV's either.

Don't know about Canada but here in the states almost all CG's have propane. Tanks are positioned to accommodate RV's and most Certainly is much easier to pull into to fill up. You don't have to be staying at the CG either to purchase their propane.

Here in Myrtle Beach where we stay for the winter, we have propane delivery twice a week directly to the rv.

At home however in Montreal, I've found that I typically need to drive to an rv dealer to get the on-board tank filled on our motorhome. If the delivery companies are in the area for home bulk deliveries, they will stop if I ask them. They won't make a trip specifically for an rv.

"Most propane companies in the US do not fill RV's either." Where on earth do you live? This service is very common at propane companies!
  • Have you tried Taxi companies.
Here in Ottawa they have a fleet of propane fueled taxis with refill stations.

And I was referring to their main 'offices/plant' where they sell and refill propane and service residential also.

You used to be able to go their main facility and have them fill an RV. They no longer do that in the area of Wisconsin I lived in. I ALSO found out that the area I stayed in Florida also quit the practice. IMHO because of liability. Too many sue people out there nowadays.

I quit trying to get propane at Flying J's also since they now demand that you AND your pets leave the MH before they will fill it.
You don't take them out they don't fill the tank.

I travel with 4 dogs, I am not about to take out all my dogs in a busy truck stop and stand on a small concrete island with them with trucks pulling in an out. Sure doesn't make any sense anyway. If that tank blows standing outside next to the MH is not going to save anyone. :B
  • We had the same problem in Newfoundland this past year. So thanks for letting us know that there can be issues in Nova Scotia as well.
