RV Temporary Registration Not Acceptable for TIP

We had tried to find the answer to that question and had answers both ways - yes - i a temporary registration is acceptable to bring a travel trailer into Mexico. No - it is not allowed.
We called Banjercito in Mexico City and asked: Yes - it is allowed.
We went through the border crossing at Nogales and were refused at KM21 citing that a temporary registration is absolutely not allowed to get a TIP for a travel trailer. We spent quite some time checking and double checking and some other folks who were native Spanish speakers (my Spanish is not so good!) offered to help so we double checked again. The official answer:
A temporary is acceptable in USA - it is absolutely not allowed in Mexico for a travel trailer.
Back to Arizona we go now to wait until the Oregon DMV finally decides to mail our permanent title. They said once that they had mailed it already only to find it was the wrong title...
Oh, well - life continues :)

Temporary registration is for Americans. Canadians need a real license plate on their trailer, in order to cross the border, be it in a TIP zone or wherever. It took me a week and quite a bit of money to get Montana plates for a trailer while sitting on the camp in San Diego. Was cheaper than towing it to Vancouver and back, with GST/HST, gas, and other related fees, but doesn't probably make sense if you plan to bring it to Canada within the next 15 years (which I don't).
  • Clausont thank you for providing a valuable real-life experience. The ADUANA checkpoints are nightmarishly strict. Anyone who thinks otherwise is in for one hell of a surprise.

My last trip through I was held up for TWO HOURS because the scanner tube that they pass the removed hologram in front of would not register it. The hologram was in superb condition when this was attempted. The lady spent the two hours TRYING to take digital images through the windshield of the VIN placard on the dashboard. She would not recognize the decal on the door jamb.

There is nothing on the face of the earth more dangerous than SAT / SHCP armed with computer databases. Taxing foreign bank account money transfers and deposits? Property taxes based on whether or not the owner has an IFE credencial? Fees based on whether or not the individual is extraneous? Oh i can't wait to see what they have in store... :)
