San Diego (Oceanside) to Provo Utah Best Route Fires 15

Hi we normally leave out of San Marcos to 15 towards Las Vegas, but we are camped at Oceanside. We are considering an alternative route as I really am not too keen on traveling 15 with fires popping up everywhere. I think by this Wednesday the Blue Cut Fire should allow access, however still something tells me not to go this route. Everytime we get caught up in trying alternates we get mired in confusion around riverside? Trying 10 and 40? One time we went 8 east and up some road 95? then to Flagstaff? Not so much worried about length of trip as would like to avoid heat and fires if that is even possible now? Any advice appreciated. Something about these fires just seems to me not the right time to get trapped course I am just the co0-pilot hubby wants to barrel on thru? lol
  • Hey Dick where did you move it to? how can folks follow this tintillating topic? lol
  • I-15 through the Cajon Pass is open and flowing normally. All evacuations have been lifted. The only flame is up Lytle Creek buring on the North side of the Canyon...
  • Went through Cajon Pass a couple of days ago and I-15 was opened in both directions. Fire was still going on, but it seemed way off from the interstate. You will be just fine going I-15
  • The alternative could mean a HUGE detour through the desert. The fire was at 26% containment last night and growing now that all the resources are where they belong. In 5 days there is an excellent chance this will be a fully contained if not out

    Updates HERE

BTW- If you read the morning report they are now claiming 68% containment. Sounds like a mistake
  • I would tend to go with your hubby. Worst case you might get delayed a bit but generally the interstates are kept flowing as much as possible. On the upside, you do have a MH with food, fuel, water, genny, AC and generally all the comforts of home so a slight delay en-route isn't a big deal..just travel smart.
