San Francisco route

We are planning a fall trip down the west coast and are looking for the best route thru or around the San Francisco Bay area. We have visited that area many times before and have seen the sights so this time we just want to get thru the traffic as easily as possible. Essentially we need to get from the Ukiah/Cloverdale area south to the Monterey/Carmel area. We are a 39' motorhome with toad and a 28' fifth wheel. Suggestions?
  • 101 straight through town it is not that bad and any other rout can lead to gridlock just as easy. What better way to see SF than come in from the north across the Golden Gate. I have done this many times think about it if the big rigs can do it so can you.

I would recommend 101 to 580 over the Richmond bridge then connect with 880 then 101 then 156 to 1 into Monterey.

    X2
  • Appreciate the advice. I will look at my options and figure it out. Thanks!!!

x2. Use your favorite traffic app.
  • Drive straight through on the 101. If you have a smart phone get Waze app and have the co-pilot watch traffic and pick alternate route(s) if there is an accident.

  • This pass fall I took I-580 to I-880 to the 101.
