Sarasota to Pigeon Forge... where to stop

We are planning our trip this year and we will be starting off in Sarasota Fl. For a week, then moving to Sevierville TN for 6 days, then onto Bristol for the NASCAR race...

We leave Sarasota on a Saturday, and check into Sevierville TN on Sunday, am I better staying North or South of Atlanta? We will be taking 75 up, an not looking to make the whole run in 1 day..

* Second - is there a nice, clean campground you can suggest North or South of Atlanta?

We are staying at -
Sarasota - Sun and Fun
Sevierville - River Plantation RV Resort
Bristol - Medallion Campground
  • I live in Tampa and when going North I usually stay at the KOA in Macon GA right off I-75. When you check in, if you want a pizza, they will take your order for a homemade Pizza and then deliver it to your campsite. It arrives about the time you are set up.

Especially convenient if traveling with kids. Smokey's are an easy drive the next day.
  • I'll concur that Fair Harbor RV in Perry GA is a good overnight stop. We stayed there last October both going to and coming home from Sevierville.
  • Made the trip from Sarasota to Warner Robins Ga (1.5 hours south of Atlanta) many times. Towing I make that trip in about 7-7.5 hours and am usually pretty whipped by then. Add probably another 2 towing to Atlanta, depending on where in Atlanta you stop.

If you want to stop around my area there's a decent campground in Perry Ga. Fair Harbor RV Park and Campground. Should be another 6 or 7 hours max from there to Sevierville (350 miles).

  • You are looking at an 8 hour day to get to Atlanta from Sarasota. I use the RVPARKY app to find places to overnight on the road. A quick look at it had lots of options so you just need to figure out how long a day you want to put in driving. I take US441 usually to avoid Atlanta. A much nice pace than I-75 and I still make my trip to FL in one overnight. We stay at Scenic Mountain Resort in Milledgeville when we do. Nice park. You can head east out of Macon if you want to try that way.

River Plantation is a nice park and you should be happy with that choice. Enjoy your stay in Sevierville.
