Saugerties/Woodstock NY KOA and a warning.
We changed our one night stop to here after discovering that North South Lake state campground didn't have hookups. It's been cold and we needed the heat, and the gen blew out the muffler when I started it just before leaving on this trip.
We came east on I-88 from Binghampton, and a cursory look at the route (on a paper map) said NY 23 to 23A to 32 to 212. The GPS had a better idea though, and had us bang a right off 23a onto County Road 16. When I saw the 4 ton road ahead sign, I should have turned around, but in the past, every time I second guessed TomTom, he was right and I was wrong. Not this time. County route 16 turned into this narrow, winding downgrade through a state forest barely wide enough for 2 cars to pass. I stopped several times to let the brakes cool.
The GPS took the shortest route (and straight line distance it was), but there were a few white knuckle moments along the way.
So if you find yourself motoring down State route 23A in the Catskills, and TomTom says to take a right on Bloomer Rd, just say no...
