Speed Trap, Toll Booth & Road Hazard Location in MX

Found this map that shows the location of the toll booths with pictures and known locations of speed traps. What is a surprise is it shows Mexico, USA & Canada. You have the ability to add more info in the same way as the RV Park Review site. I checked the locations from Tucson to San Diego and the map was correct from what I have seen in my travels.

Anybody remember Selma, Tx. just north of San Antonio? The town was famous as a speed trap as referenced in the Steve Earle song "Guitar Town".

It must be hard to be proud to be a Road-Tax-Collector instead of a Public Safety Officer.
I wouldn't know but I do wish I had his pension! He's two years away from the gravy train.

Great information! Many thanks.

BTW If folks feel revenue isn't the primary reason for speed enforcement I've got some ocean front property in New Mexico for sale....

You are absolutely wrong. Officers read the briefing boards before they go on duty. A traffic officer writes most of their sites where accidents are occurring and they know that people are violating the vehicle law in that area. I have sat on intersections where accidents occur and cars were busting the red light faster than I could write cites. In this country I doubt management tells officers when and where to write a cite. No body ever told me where and when to write a cite. However, If I slept all day and did nothing management would know I wasn't doing my job. If drivers violate the traffic laws when an officer is present I am sure it happens a lot more when they aren't present.

I know of one speedtrap just west of Middletown, MD, where a officer makes his monthly quota very easily as it is a downgrade out to open country where there has never been an accident AFAIK. 35 mph way out to where it should be 45-55.

By the definition used in the Courts, speed traps are not legal. Posting signs behind billboards or trees or parking a patrol car inside a building, not legal in this country. I'm all for law enforcement enforcing the law but not setting people up so they don't have reasonable knowledge of the law and the arresting or ticketing them.

Exposing speed traps is great and I support it.

I would prefer someone correct their driving habits by a speeding ticket than crashing into an innocent family.
If you obey posted speed limits there is nothing to worry about.

I found the map via a News Story about a Study of Speed Traps which found most were for generating dollars behind the front of public safety. The study found many sites where the speed dropped too quickly or was poorly marked only to rise again in a short distance. Another was on downhill legs of the roads where it is known speed slowly creeps up and the speed has been just lowered. One small town in LA was generating $800,000/yr from the slow down speed up trap. I know the speed traps on I8 westbound into San Diego are on the downhill run of the Coastal Mountain range. Nogales Police have been working I19 this last year instead of patrolling neighborhood streets. Use it or not, your choice. I will try to find the Study and post.

If you obey the speed limit all the time it becomes habit and there are no speed traps.
