St Louis I64 to I55 best RV route.

Will be heading south and skirting the west side of St. Louis. MS S&T is telling me to take 141 to get from I64 to I55. When I zoom in it really appears like it's a highly developed area with I'm guessing a lot of stop lights and local traffic/shopping.

Is there a better RV route that doesn't run me thru St. Louis?

Thanks Tatest, but I guessed that was where you were going.

Can't remember if you're a snowbird or not :h, but when you leave the north you got to make miles straight south to get away from snow/storms. I90 to I39 can get you into trouble. Not a problem heading north when you can wait things out.

Your route I've done before, they are good roads. Almost got killed on 49 in Desoto though. Lot of no and where on that divided highway.

FWIW that's why I keep my question to the point and not ask for over a thousand miles of opinions.

ON EDIT:

BTW, when will your home state fix their roads. Other then the toll ones, they are some of the worst in the US.

OK Tatest, I'll play along, mostly because I'm wondering what you will have up your sleeve. Let say we went from Minneapolis to Mobile. What would your route be that bypasses St. Louis. That's roughly 1,500 miles long. 70mph, no stoplights, big rig interstate roads.

I doesn't work that way. To avoid the big cities you sometimes have to get off the Interstates. Setting the no stoplights flag puts you in a trap. Even on the Interstates, you will have reduced speed limits in urban areas.

I-94 to Madison
I-39 to Normal
I-74 to Champaign
I-57 to I-55
I-55 to Jackson
US-49 to Hattiesburg
US-98 to Mobile

If you really must stay on the Interstates, I-55 all the way down to I-12, then I-10 across to Mobile. I've had to follow that one several times coming across from Houston, and because of the road condition and traffic across southern Louisiana, I now use US-49 instead. It is four-lane divided, 60-65 mph speed limits when rural, but it does go through a few towns.

Minneapolis to Mobile was a ringer, there is no reason to go anywhere near St Louis, that would be out of the way. The problem nexus on this route is where I-40 and I-55 run together west of Memphis, avoiding that on Interstates takes one toward Nashville, which can be much worse the going through St Louis.

My last time through St Louis (end of August) I went straight through the center of the city on I-44 to I-55. At 7 PM on a Friday night, that is a much better route than the loop expressways, clogged with suburban shopping and dinner traffic.

Really don't know why you would want to know that, but for argument sake lets just say Des Moines to Memphis.

Because there are alternative routes through Missouri and Illinois that avoid St Louis entirely, sometimes with less mileage and no more travel time, compared with the Interstates that got run through St Louis as a transportation nexus.

Des Moines to Memphis, St Louis is hard to avoid. Chicago to Dallas, or Minneapolis to Mobile, there are ways around the St Louis nexus.

If you want good advice, it helps to know where you're going especially with road construction and the like this time of year.

But I will simply answer your question, yes, there is a better way than 141, more specifically I-270 would be a much better route IMHO (after driving it daily for years).

In from st chas county, 70 to 64 ((chesterfield exit at Wentzville) to 270 to 55 if it's Memphis.
Going to Nashville same way but stay on 64 across Mississippi. Just go early. Easy if you do that. 5-6am. We did it in May to destin, just left early, piece of cake.
