  • Although I-44 between Oklahoma City and Tulsa can be a little faster, there are more hills and trucks to deal with than taking I-40. If you decide to take I-40 you can go north on Hwy 75 at Henryetta toward Tulsa to get back to I-44. This way adds 15 to 20 minutes to the drive, but it is much less stressful. As you get to Tulsa on Hwy 75, take the Creek Turnpike east around Tulsa and pick up I-44 again on the east side of Tulsa. The Creek Turnpike has very light traffic once you pass Memorial Drive, so it is much easier on the nerves than taking I-44 through Tulsa.
  • We took I40/I44 from Springfield, MO, through Albuquerque and back last summer. As Azdryheat noted, you'll need change for the toll roads in Oklahoma. We weren't prepared for that, but luckily, we had our roll of laundry quarters.

There are quite a few neat Route 66 stops, if that sort of thing interests you.
  • I-44 is a toll road from OK City to Tulsa to the Ark border. For my 5 axles it was around $33.00.

You are not going to get into any more high country after you leave the Albuquerque area. The Interstates all have the same specs on hills and curves etc... Once you clear the Sandia's you should have clear sailing all the way to Oklahoma City on I40. I44 to St Louis is not the straightest Interstate but I'm sure you will be running in the middle of many big trucks...

Looks like you will be routing thru several large metropolitan places on I44... I hate driving through the very large towns with just my pickup truck haha... Big towns and lane changing is always my fears...

  • The obvious is I-40 to I-44 depending where you want to go in the St. Louis area and where you're heading.

We love staying at Edmund Babler State Park - huge grassy sites and a big park - easy access to the highways.
  • Google does a real good job of finding a route to most any destination. In your case it shows three possible routes. I also like to check the proposed route with a motor carrier's atlas, which tells me if the road is suitable for a big rig. I find that getting off the interstate sometimes gets me a less traveled, smoother road.
