+1. Good relaxed road for the most part, some 4 lane. Some truck traffic but they move right along.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. I will study the various state maps and see what appeals the most. We like to avoid as many cities as possible.
  • If you are not in a hurry drive the Santa Fe Trail from Santa Fe NM to Independence MO. Then take I 70 to Saint Louis. The Casino Queen RV park in Saint Louis is our choice very clean nice pull through sites and you can call for one of there shuttles to take you to the Metro Link station. Forest Park and the St. Louis Art museum should not be missed
  • I would take I-40 to Checotah OK, then US69 N which merges with US60 at Vinita OK. US 69 splits and heads east towards Wyandotte. Then take I-49 US 71 north to I-44 east.
In Amarillo we stay at Oasis RV Park.
In Oklahoma City we like Twin Fountains RV Park.
In Wyandotte OK Indigo Sky Casino has a nice little RV Park called Whispering Woods. Just don't stop there the weekend.
  • I-40 to I-44 is the quickest and shortest route, but it does include tolls along I-44 in OK. To avoid those tolls, you can parallel the toll road on scenic "Old Route 66" through towns like Chandler, Bristow, Claremore, and Vinita. Expect to increase travel time by a half hour or so, and I think you save about $8 in tolls (I have a PikePass so I don't pay much attention to the exact amounts).
