We are going to store our 29' Jay Feather Lt. trailer in a secure park in Jalisco. This is in the mountains so there will be no salt problems. We would like to cover the trailer for the summer months and bought a heavy duty used billboard sign. It is 23' X 40'. It weighs a lot. We wonder if there is an easy way to support the tarp and lifting the tarp into position. If there is an answer I know it will be here with RV.net.Earlier I asked for assistance looking for a company in Guadalajara who could fix our roof after a tree fell on it. You might get a wider response by posting this question in one of the other forum here on rv.net.That said, a heavy canvas tarp will require at least two people.I can get a blue plastic tarp over my camper by myself using nylon line attached at each corner and the middle.And an extendable pole (used for window washing) to prod the tarp up and over into place.With a heavy canvas you'll probably need two step ladders and two people.

This may get interesting. Do you have a 10-year RV permit for the pickup and the trailer. That will really grease the skids officially. If you have the 180-day permit and go to turn in the TIP at the border and they see no trailer connected they are going to say, No Trailer No Cancellation.Been there done that with the roof cover. Used corrugated green fiberglass patio roofing. 1/4" rivets with backing washers. Without a tree and a chain hoist your bill board is going to be a tough row to hoe. I used multiple Harbor Freight gray tarps, but left enough opening for ventilation. Creating a bat cave will grow mold that the Center For Disease Control would flee from.

I have to wonder about using different materials as vehicle covers. We once had one of those bra things and it rubbed the paint off the front of our car. If the wind blows and the cover moves around won't it rub on the vehicle and cause damage? I know we see people cover RVs with different things all the time but then we see them blowing in the wind and have to wonder if damage is not occurring. If the vehicle is meant to be outdoors and also going down the road it is designed and built to withstand the elements. Does it really need to protection from something that could provide less than desirable protection? I would not use one - but then we are on the road over 9 months per year.

I bury tires 3/4ths the way into the ground, then use BIG RIG TRUCK RATCHET STRAPS tossed over top the rig and fastened to the tires. Cargo nets, more rope whatever works to spread the clamping over a big area. The cargo straps will hold many tons of pressure and they are rated for sun and hurricanes. I ran the tarps under the rig then used bungees to hook through eyelets and onto frame supports, whatever. The edges cannot be allowed to flap or they will tear and fray. I had to use two dozen bungees and ended up buying a tarp grommet kit to add grommets wherever I liked.

Bleach is not an "acid". It does release chlorine gas though, deadly in high concentrations (doesn't happen when working with bleach), and irritating in low concentrations. Ventilating the rig for a few hours or days before moving in will get rid of chlorine.

I would still leave it uncovered. In summer it will dry out in sun after rain.

The best is to build a rigid cover about a foot above the roof, open from the sides.

I definitely don't want to open the door and find a replica of Hazard 5 level of the Center For Disease Control growing inside. It's not funny. Stuff like Legionaire's Disease can run rampant. Storing an RV then getting a case of pneumonia is not at all funny.

Unless this is some rainy place in summer, I'd say - no cover. Spray EPDM roof with 303 protectant, cover the wheels on the South side, and call it a day.

I like the bleach remedy. Certainly going to give that one a try. Simple and cheap too.
We are not exactly using a tarp per say Moisheh. We found a man selling used billboard signs. These are in great condition and strong like bull. As I mentioned another camper used this method last year and he only needed a duster on return.

Tightly covering any RV in any climate will be problematic. In humid areas you will get mould. In dry areas you will get dry rot. Fabrics will fall apart. Foam rubber will lose it's resilience. Glues will become unglued. Rubber and plastic trim will fall apart. Not good.

I cured the mold issue this way:

I went to a tienda and purchased three small pitchers. The narrower and taller the better. I filled them with GREEN bottle Clorolex, about an inch from the top. I made sure they would not tip. Over several months the chlorine bleach evaporated. The bleach fumes kept the mold at bay. I would start out with one pitcher and see how that does. It took about two hours to air-out the bus. The issue is temperature. Don't want too much chlorine at once.

We did leave the rig last year and it was not covered. It did okay but we thought we could improve on that. Although we are putting a tarp over the rig, it will breath because we are supporting the tarp with heavy CVP pipe, so there will be a space between the roof and the tarp. Another camper did this with his rig last year at the same park and he told me all that his wife needed to do this spring was to dust. Lets keep our fingers crossed and the duster at the ready,

We had friends store a class A motorhome in Teacapan over the summer. They had problems inside the unit, mostly with with mold. Teacapan is relatively close to the ocean so they may have had higher humidity than you are expecting. Not sure what you can do to lower the RH inside the unit, a cover won't stop that.
