"MEXICO CITY To keep IEPS revenues expected in 2017, will be necessary to expand the band gasoline and diesel prices to offset the subsidy was necessary to apply this year.
According to an analysis of the Mexican Association of Entrepreneurs Gasolineros (Amegas) to keep fuel prices within the band of 3 percent, it was necessary that the Government implement a subsidy due to the increase in international prices of gasoline.
For example, only if the full rate IEPS corresponding to this year, with the band set for 2016, prices in the case of Magna gasoline would be 15.17 pesos per liter, 16.09 for Premium and 14.73 pesos you will be charged for for diesel, the study of this Association.
The Amegas proposed scenarios for fixing the band in a range of from 4 to 10 percent, which will result in substantial increases in the price of oil by 2017, without considering compensation applied to the subsidy this year.
By expanding the band to 4 percent, excluding the subsidy, the maximum price of the Magna is 14.54 and minimum of 13.42; that of the Premium, 15.40 and 14.22 maximum and minimum Diesel 15.22 at the top and 14.04 pesos per liter on the floor.
There would rise as pureed price band, according to the analysis referred.
In view Amegas, there are no conditions of competition to generalize the release of fuel in 2017. "

The above came from the Reforma wire service. El Imparcial posted a chart with the likely prices: Magna:15.17,Premium:16.09 and Diesel 16.09. Apparently IEPS is some sort of special tax that is applied to food and gasoline and more. Gasoline in Tucson is around $1.95!!!

I'm not getting my knickers in a twist for one. no one outside an asylum is considering putting a grand whack on the majority of Mexicanos. If the PRI tries it, it will be the last bloody smear of blood for the party and they know it.

Relax, and simply keep in mind what is and isn't sensitive to fluctuating tipos de cambios.

Maybe it's time to consider moving from the front row $45 dollar a day front row RV park site. Try alimentos Mexicanos instead of USA grub. I can go for weeks carefully dodging not worth three cents USA news garbage. If it's intolerably hot I go up in altitude and verse vica. 99 out of 100 people think americans are a little loco with how fussy they are.

Live like a Mexican. Try it. It's fun and an adventure. Insisting on sticking with French Food in Nepal is foolish and expensive. At the moment I am atop a queen bed in a city hotel that costs 350 pesos night. Less than 20 dlls. Last night three tacos al pastor at 18 pesos each. Less than three dollars. This morning, desayuno for 40 pesos including fresh brewed coffee.

Instead of going loco over gas prices do something to the rig to increase fuel economy. Make a bet with the DW. Five dollars per article insisted on loading but returned home unused. A majority of stuff gets lost in overstuffed bins anyway. Bringing five pounds of flour. Ten jars of Best Foods mayo. And enough pancake mix to feed a village of three hundred boggles the imagination. Pare it down. Way way way down. Do I need 27 AAA batteries? Enough tools to overhaul an engine? I'll bet most folks can depart half a ton lighter and never miss it. And compared to gasoline prices 15 cents a gallon higher the comparison is a laugh.

Why would it be a surprise, the Dollar is nearly 20.00 pesos so everything is going up, the taxi that cost me 35.00 pesos is now 40.00 pesos and a lot of products that are manufactured in Mexico with American brand names really go up, we have 12 cats and cat food all of a sudden there is a shortage and it reappears with a higher price, at least I have lunch with soup, rice the main course with beans, dessert and a drink with refills for 50.00 pesos, chiles rellenos, cochinita pibil, albondigas de res, pollo en mole poblano, enchiladas suizas, you name it they serve it at least once a month very varied menu and good food, comida corrida.

Now for the gasoline, I take the taxi to go to Walmart, Home Despot, Bed Bath and Beyond, Costco, IHOP, Chedraui, Sears it is cheaper than using the car, all of this places are close by some I can walk that of course is a risk in getting run over by an idiot, specially the women they do not even slow down for the topes, they do not pay for the car so they do not care.

So gasoline is going up yes everything else is going up, and what ever idiot get's the White House the economy in Mexico is going to go nuts, and yes I am in Mexico City viviendo la vida loca, remodeling the wife's inherited house!
Eight bedrooms three stories with a beautiful view of the volcanos and the city only pay $800.00 US dollars in property tax a year, no rent just water gas and electric about 3000.00 pesos about $ 160.00 us Dollars a month for an extended family of 9 and a dozen cats, no kitchen so far working on it, starting next week.

So gasoline is going up no surprise at all, next year some oil companies are going to start selling under their brand names so says El Universal News paper and depending on Washington there might be more price increases, every body here is waiting for the "sablaso" (sable as sword)so we will see after Tuesday how it goes.

I will offer pure speculation........

A way of taxing road use for electric vehicles will be figured out - we are in the infancy of this idea. I would suggest a tax on vehicle registration based on miles driven per year. That should do it. There could be other ways.

I think by now everyone knows we will eventually run out of fossil fuel - it is not a renewable resource - alternatives must be found before we do run out. The experts say even with massive new finds and new technology they can have some idea of how to predict when we will run out at current use levels. Smart money says developing new alternative resources NOW will prepare us for a future without fossil fuels or with very limited fossil fuel. To prolong how long fossil fuel will last says smart money will find new ways to make sure we do not run out. Electricity is but one possible solution. Smart money will be working on other ideas.

The topic is fuel prices - lets stay on topic.

Most of us EV drivers (or the ones I have talked to anyway) are fine with some kind of registration fee to cover road maintenance. We bought our electric vehicle a year and a half a go. We bought it for the driving experience, fast, agile, quiet, superior features. The economy is a nice addition though. Virtually no maintenance, no belts, no hoses, no oils, no filters. Spent 30 cents on washer fluid so far, thats it. We are replacing our older oil burner next year with another electric. Right now the actual cost of driving our EV is a fraction of our oil burner. I don't think EV's suit everybodies needs, trucks, towing etc, but there is no way these things won't become mainstream. They are a very nice driving experience and that is what will make them winners.

Would thermoelectric by fossil fuel - like diesel and natural gas? Then would carbon be coal? I know where the nuke is. I have also heard they built something like 13 new dams over the past 20 years or so. I think eolic could be wind? No solar? I think geothermal comes from hot hot springs from way down under - natural steam. Not sure if I am correct.

Thermoelectric represents 44.80% of production, hydroelectric 22.17%, carbon generates 5.22%, nuclear contributes 2.74%, geo-thermo at 1.92% and eolic only 0.171%. Independent suppliers produce a high percentage in relation to the other forms of energy generation up to 22.98% of installed capacity, according to the CFE.

I don't really know a lot about any of this - just what I read online. I posted in other recent threads about fuel that we saw pipelines in the US going to Mexico. I later learned these are natural gas pipelines. I also read power plants in Mexico are converting to natural gas. In the US coal and diesel plants are converting to natural gas because it has become much cheaper - and it is cleaner - not perfect but better. I read that as many as 60% of power plants in Mexico have now converted to natural gas or are in the process of converting. We have seen the pipelines being built and have read about them and posted about them in threads here.

SO - QUESTION? Will converting to cheaper natural gas lower the cost of electricity once the pipelines are completed? Also - opening Mexico to new drilling and drilling technology means Mexico could have more of their own natural gas. Do you guys know much about this and what is going on with all of that? I only know what I can find online but those living in Mexico probably get to see a lot more information in the news etc.

That is an oxymoron in the sense that who else will pay? It is always the consumer and we have known for years all of this would come to an end. Socialist democracy never works. If it says "social" in it, the end will always come. End to subsidies, end to free electricity for employees (now the first 385 KWH are no charge), layoffs, etc.

This will only force people to do what we have been trying to do for years. Get an education, work hard and join the rest of the world. A changaro that sells abarrotes just doesn't cut it anymore. Let's face it, big box is here to stay.

And the best part for those who pay their dues is that the CFE and its new subsidiaries are on the hunt for those that steal power, an endless problem over the years that affects everyone in terms of price, power issues, and corruption.

Slowly, globalization is here to stay, good or bad.

Well there's one thing that will affect RV Park prices for sure...

Three CFE rate hikes this year. 24% increase for businesses and even higher percentage for industrial customers. Residential goes up every bimestural but not part of the hikes. CFE claims PEMEX precios de comistibles have raised through the roof. #6 fuel oil, and diesel Marina.

No this isn't rumor or gossip. CFE is having a crisis. Seven thousand workers laid off and 400+ regional offices closed. We. Ow have to pay through the oficina de telegrafos with a 15 peso service charge - or drive a 150 mile trip to the nearest CFE office.

If Alicia and Celso are sending their money north to a USA bank you can bet capital flight is in full bloom. I've not seen anything like this since just lrior to the 22 Dec 1994 Christmas Surprise.

And the people get it in the shorts yet again. Please be generous with tips this coming season. The DICONSA tiendas are gaining more customers every month as the economy stagnates. This is the latest morph of the original CONASUPO stores.

I did a search and found their link to the story in a list of articles about Pemex - search results webpage below - but clicking did not take me to the article - got an error message.

I also read the other story on the webpage posted by Moisheh above which is mostly about the corruption and losses at Pemex - very interesting. Maybe that is why all this change to bring in other oil companies is happening - my posted websites above - to bring in others to get to the oil and bring it up. But I do think those companies will have to have some specific contracts to make sure they will be paid. Sounds like Pemex is done and new companies will have to bring up the oil. Will Mexico screw them again as they did in 1938? Or will real deals happen? I wonder if US refineries selling to Mexico are getting paid?
