Tell me about the Yukon

We are starting to plan next year's vacation(s) and are looking at the Yukon as a possible spot. We'd be flying most likely into Whitehorse. Looking for places to go and things to do such as photograph wildlife, history, ghost/mining towns, etc. Most likely time frame would be last week of August into Labor Day weekend. Cold weather is not an issue.
  • Sue, great pics! You and my hubby would get along great! Looks like it's a great place to go assuming we can work out logistics.
  • In Whitehorse the aviation museum at the airport is fascinating as is the Fish Ladder over by the dam on the river. We really enjoyed the drive to Skagway and the Ferry ride from Skagway to Haines. The train ride out of Skagway is pricey but was interesting and scenic.

The short walk up to the point where the original ALCAN highway was completed near Kluane lake also was interesting. Photo ops are nearly everywhere if you allow the time to stop often.
  • The Yukon has a great travel guide available.

Visit the site and you can order a paper guide as well as maps.
  • Hundreds of Yukon photos on my website at http://yukonsights.ca/

Mining & ghost towns? Plan to spend some time in Dawson City.
Wildlife? Alaska Highway Whitehorse to Kluane Lake often has elk, bears, deer, moose, fox, wild horses and more.
