temecula to I-10

planning a trip from Temecula to casa grande. I see there are 2 similar distance routes to get there. up to I-10 or down to I-8.
I vaguely remember some caution about the route north to 10 but I don't know if it meant from Temecula. somewhere in that area is a state hiway not recommended for large M/Hs.
  • Came up Sanderson to the 10 yesterday and traffic was really bad in the Hemet area then you also have the grade from Gilman springs to the 10, as for traffic it's all going to depend on the time of day

This is the best way I have found to get to the I 10. When you get almost to Hemet there is a little short cut that keeps you out of downtown. Can't remember the street name but it is just one left turn and about 3 - 4 miles you pick up 79 north to I 10. Not much traffic for SoCal, keeps you out of the mountains on I 8.....Really an easy way to go !

You're probably talking Warren Rd off of Domenogoni (sp?) Parkway. That's the way I go also, but there has been road construction along that road with very poorly marked detour signs that take you up to Sanderson anyway.

I usually take 215-60-10-85-8. This route avoids San Diego traffic which can be very heavy at times. 85 bypasses Phoenix. In bad weather I take 215 all the way to I-10 as 60 can have dense fog.

I find the single grade east of Indio on I-10 much easier of a drive than the multiple grades on I-8 to 20 miles west of El Centro.

    +1 that's the way I'd go

  • Avoid 78 which is mostly 2 lane stuff. Either 8 or 10 are fine. Each has advantages/disadvantages but I've done both in Class A's towing. Winds near Palm Springs on 10 can be dangerous at times, but that is true of all desert environments. And time your departure from Temecula to avoid commuter times. I made the drive from Temecula to Casa Grande in one day about a decade ago. Used 8 that time. Took about 8 hours leaving Temecula around 10am driving 60-62 mph.
