US 89 Flagstaff to Kanab Utah

Spouse and I drive a Thor Four Winds Super C Diesel.

Planning a trip from Phoenix to Montana to visit the family in August. The plan is to head north to Flagstaff, then take US 89 thru Page, come out in Kanab Utah. If we don't go this way, we'll have to head west and go thru Vegas, which will add some trip time for sure.

Our son has a fifth wheel, said US 89 was horrible a couple of years back and stuff got thrown all over the inside while they were driving the road.

I'm thinking in a larger motorhome like we have, that might not be as much of an issue as the son had with a tow vehicle.

I suppose I could do a 511 call but I thought I'd ask those of you who may have taken US 89 from Arizona into Utah recently and see what you have to say.

We came through there last October with our 65' combination and it was a good road all the way with no difficulties having that long of a rig and trailer.

89 from Cameron to about Willow Springs is rough. Go 75+ and get some tires off the ground kind of rough... I doubt ADOT has done much maintenance since I've driven that road last spring.

Hauling horses, I do the Vegas route. Less turns and steep roads. Going through Page is more scenic though.

Pick your poison.

Hwy 89 is the main Hwy for RVers up thru Utah, so it can't be that bad. I Camp Host at a little RV Park right off 89 and the number of RV's through this area is really something.

As has been said - the road is fine - if it gets a little rough, just slow down - beautiful drive and sure beats going to Vegas and UP.

I'd actually vote to get on over to Colorado - running through - Canyon de Chelly - Silverton - Dinosaur - and Wind River Canyon.

Drive should be as good as the destination, JMHO,

Lots of options to make this a fun trip up and Back if you have the time.

Best of luck,

We thought so as well, no problem since they re-opened the repaired section.
