US 93 Kingman AZ - I-10

I'm headed for the Phoenix area in a couple of weeks. I noticed that US 93 isn't marked with the "RV-friendly" orange line in my Good Sam atlas. Is there really anything wrong with the road? All that would really concern me is low bridges I think.

Has anybody done this road with a rig or travel trailer recently?
  • No problems with bridges. Some of it is 4 lane but quite a bit is still 2 lane. Its those areas I dislike. People drive fast and there have been numerous head on collisions from cross over traffic. Keep headlights on during the day.

I tend to drive this route during the day or when 89 has snow. At night I often take I-40 to 89 south at Ash Fork thru Prescott Valley and over to I-17 south to Phoenix. Its a bit longer route but more interstate.
  • I take US93 between Kingman and Vegas a few times a year, car and RV. No problems with RV, good road and great views.
  • Hwy 93 is absolutely perfect for RVs - no low bridges or other obstacles.

You didn't state your Phoenix area destination but you can take 93 to Wickenburg and then Hwy 74 over to I-17.
  • Just watch the weather........Rain along that route causes heavy flash flooding
  • Its a good road about 50 miles of two lane ,10 miles of construction. People like to drive over the limit which 65 can get interesting in the 2 lane sections. Most the hilly sections are 4 lane. Drove it in Sept 15.
  • ADOT has dedicated nearly half a billion dollars to widening and improving US 93 from Wickenburg to Hoover Dam over the last several years. ADOT's long-term vision is to transform this highly traveled route into a four-lane divided highway through the entire 200-mile stretch. The US 93 series of projects is a priority for ADOT and has significantly improved our state highway system to move people, goods and services more efficiently.

I have not driven it "recently" but it was fine 7-8 yrs ago. The above info is from the AZ DOT. It looks like the next phase around mile 116-119 will not begin until 2016.
