There are unscrupilous bar tenders that slip a few drops of a chemical to get the patrons semi drunk in order to water down the next rounds, specially in tourist traps, I never cared for cocktails or hard liquor, I stoped ordering open glass wine and when I order, I insist that the wine bolttle and beer be opened by me and not the waiter, I emphasise the fact that I will not accept the bottle if it is open or tampered with.
I check the foil on the wine bottle for tell taile signs of a hipodermic needle hole and that the rest of the foil is untampered once I cut the top off I turn the foil over to look for a hole that can not be hidden by massaging the foil to hide the tampering, many times they ask me if I do not trust the waiter, I tell them that I trust him but not the bar tender, I seldom drink wine since Mexican food goes better with beer, and that I oppen my self making sure to listen for the hiss and opening it away from me and directed towards the waiter, if he or she shoock the bottle they will get spayed, if they flinch I know they did shake the bottle.
I am not paranoyed just carefull, I do not like to be drunk, did that 3 times when I was a teen ager and never again, I do engoy a good wine red or white with my wifes cooking.
Do be carefull where you have a drink or beer, this also happens in some bars in the USA, be aware of the surroundings, and specially the type of place, althow it is hard to tell, some of the fancy restaurants and night clubs are not inmune from trying to get the patrons to spend more for watered-down drinks, there are also a lot of counterfit liquor and drinks being sold out there.
