Washington State Ferries

We are planning to take a day trip from Anacortes out to Friday Harbor. This will be mid week late July. If we are going to walk on will we need reservations? What if we bring our bikes?

Thanks and safe travels.
  • Thanks all! We are looking forward to our trip. Visiting four coastal state parks and Washington City Park in Anacortes. We really enjoy a campfire in the evening so it's kind of a bummer they will not be allowed (even at Washington Park). But we will sure be glad to get out of this heat, 106 degrees here today.

    Thanks again and safe travels.
  • Get there a bit early to park (There is a paid parking lot and it could be a bit of a walk) and you will have no problems just walking on, especially mid-week.

I just made reservations for the MH from Coupeville to Port Townsend and return with no issues. The system has always worked well for me.
  • Just saw on the Seattle news tonight about problems in ferry system reservation system. Listing sailing as full but sailing with too many empty vehicle spaces. Even with 10% no show rate. Director says we know we have a problem with the link up but we don't want to make things worse by making changes without more study. Good thing you don't need reservations for walk ons and bikes on any ferries.
  • I've done that ferry trip many times for business. Always walked on. I've never seen a ferry even close to being full. In other words, I personally wouldn't worry about it.
