- VagabondRetireeExplorerWe rented 24' Class C for a week on the island in May to see if this was the lifestyle we imagined....YES, YES, YES! Went from Nanaimo to Port Hardy, back down and across to Tofino, then to Victoria before returning to Nanaimo. Awesome time, great campgrounds (maybe not Fort Victoria), scenery beyond belief. Flew back to Ontario and bought our 32' Jayco Melbourne.

When I lived in Seattle I circumnavigated Vancouver Island in my 42ft Sailboat and I would love to take my RV there But the Cost of the BC ferry is astronomical.
Can anyone tell me how much it is now?
Last summer, 55ft total full price $744.00 return. Ferries had a deal, travel after 4:00 pm on Wed. or Sat. the $6.00 a foot over 20ft went to $2.00 ft. Our cost was $ 154.00 each way. Huge savings, but still expensive.
Go here & open the pdf file. It will give you current rates.

Some people invite their banker to go with them! ;) Us residents just take out a line of credit! - cpurvesExplorerWe took our 38ft fifth wheel to Tofino three years ago. Tight road, but drive slow and it's easy enough. For sure reservations. We didn't think we would need them in the middle of the week. Only found one spot at the campground by the golf course. Loved the beaches and the two towns. Trying for next year to go back.

I never heard about this campsite. This is a good thing. I assume they built it well away from the old tailings?
Not sure how much it's being advertised outside the area, but the road heading out to the old site how has signs at the start showing the new campground. And it was build a couple km's south of the old site, I assume where there is none of the pollution that closed the old site.
Cheers!

Torquart Bay is like..one of the niceest, prettiest, bestest spots ever. Plus, if you are able to pry out the info, there is an oyster bed to die for just around a corner.
It`s 16 k`s of rough-ishy road, so just sit back and crawl in.

You are welcome.

Yes, Torquart Bay is a nice spot, but unfortunately, it has been closed for a few years. Pollution from the mining operations apparently.

Except, there is now a 1yr old campground just south of Toquart Bay called Secret Cove. It takes up almost 1km of logging road to pass, has something like 70 sites, and a kayak launch. Camped there May 2014 (right when it opened) with the Junior Rangers. Not a bad place, really, and all the sites are pretty good, with table and firepit. I think the old marina is being upgraded and re-opened (if it hasn't already) due to the vast number of sport fishing groups that come out every year and want somewhere to moor their boats while camping.
Cheers!

It's also steep in a couple places (short stretch at 18%)
Nothing I wouldn't take (and have) a small trailer over.
I don't think I would try with the current rig.
What part? We'll be there in August with our 26' (acutally 30ish) trailers. - ve7prtExplorer

Avast Matey,
You need to develop a Scottish Accent ,because it is Sproat Lake! Not Sprout!
I live on Stirling Arm which sometimes gets misspelled as Sterling!
In any event it is one of the Cleanest Lakes to be found on this Planet and definitely the best place to Camp while Visiting Tofino or Ucluelet!
Pronounced Toe Feen Oh. And You Clue Let!
Sorry about that! Yes indeed it is, it's just that I still have a bit of a Welsh accent, and that's how it comes out!
I should have known better though as I used to live, and work in Port, way back in the last century.
