10 days in Michigan

DH and I are in Elkhart to have some work done on our coach. After finishing, we’d like to see something of Michigan. We have visited The UP and Mackinac Island, albeit briefly. We are interested in the Traverse City area, and I plan to look for some parks there. I realize we could have some problems getting reservations, I didn’t make any as we missed a previous appointment for this work to be done on our coach. Due to a misdiagnosed problem with a slide we had to cancel all the reservations we had made for the previous planned trip. If I can get some good recommendations on beautiful places to stay and things to do, I would appreciate it. We have a 37 ft fifth wheel, high profile so trees can be an issue. Since we
have triple axles, we need room to maneuver. We have to be back in Texas by 8/11. Thanks so much for your help.

Compared to GH, Mears, Hoffmaster, Silver lake, it's a bit of a maneuver.

Just my humble 5 cents, don't get all excited.

All you need to do is change the route to Giles instead of going through North Muskegon. How do you think Grand Haven is easier when you ae going through town? I live within 3 mi of the north campground so I'm very familiar with the pros and cons of the two routes

Also, while in Elkhart, did you see the RV Hall of Fame?

Orchard Beach State Park near Manistee doesn't get as much use since there is no actual beach at the park anymore. If you like music, you might try Interlochen State Park. Interlochen Center for the Arts is just across the street, and you can stroll back to your campsite after taking in a concert. Traverse City State Park is right in town, but it might be hard to snag a spot this time of year.

If your route takes you near Frankenmuth, a 1-day stop at Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland with a chicken dinner at ZEHNDER'S OF FRANKENMUTH is highly recommended.

I have no idea why GordonThree thinks Muskegon State Park is hard to get to. As far as smaller crowds there that isn't true. Also there are two separate campgrounds, one on Lake Michigan and one that borders Muskegon Lake and the channel to Lake Michigan. Other parks along lake Michigan are. Pioneer a Muskegon county park just north of the state park, Mears, Ludington, Manistee are all State parks. There are many private campgrounds along the lake shore area

Grand Haven and Traverse will be VERY busy through end of September.

Alternates:

Muskegon State park. It's hard to get to so smaller crowd.

JJ Ranch. Middle of nowhere so smaller crowd.

Irons RV Park

Interlochen State Park

Charlevoix State Park

Alcona County Park

The more amenities you demand, the fewer options you'll have.

It’s nice around Grand Haven. There’s a few big destination RV parks.

Nice drive, beautiful views. There is a state park directly on the Lake but hard to get into.

Lots to see and do.
On the Lake Michigan side you have the Holland area, if you have a 4WD vehicle and can easily mount a flag to it Silver Lake sand dunes is fun. Otherwise you can take trips on dune vehicle a or rent a Jeep to drive on the dunes. Sleeping bear dunes is also nice.

Those are all I know of other than what you've already done.
