Have you thought about a stop en route at Fort Clinch? Friends of ours liked it a lot this winter while heading to the Keys. I booked a beach site there the other day. No trees, and I think paved IIRC. (Still may be cold. May be beautiful. Ya never know...)

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. I've been looking at Crooked River in GA, along with Anastastia.

In early February this year, we called and got a small site at Anastasia on very short notice. But it was indeed quite cold with heavy rain all night... kind of a mess since the thick trees overhead dripped for a long time on us, the dog, and the RV after the rain stopped. Lots of tracking in of wet sand.

And like most Florida state parks, the bathrooms/shower houses have open spaces with screening for ventilation across the top of the walls, with no heat of course, and were REALLY cold.

So I'm skipping it for next year's winter route south. I, too, checked on Sebastian Inlet today for next year, and found nothing for late January 2016. But I'm not surprised - it is really popular with fishing folks.

One option you might check is Long Point Park, a Brevard County park with a campground on Melbourne Beach, set on a little island in the Indian River, just north of Sebastian Inlet. Grass sites and not particularly fancy, but in a good location. They now have online reservations.

One of our favorite places to stay.

The Coquina loop is closest to the beach...not that far a trek. It also seems to have the shadiest spots (not that you'd care in February). I always see larger rigs in that loop whenever we visit.

Anastasia is a very nice place with the campground located under a thick hammock tree cover. Although the park is on the beach, the CG section is not. It is a good walk to the beach, I would suggest cycling, or driving (plenty of parking).

It is normally tough to get a reservation, book now if possible.

The sites are much smaller at Anastasia. The sites are under tree cover at Anastasia. Anastasia is further north and so colder than Sebastian.

The larger sites at Anastasia are booking/filling up but they are a small % of the total sites (less than 20%), making the park seem empty. The campground itself is in a great location - right outside of St. Augustine.
