Appache Junction Campgrounds

We have narrowed our choices for a winter camping location so I am starting a new thread.
We are looking for campground recommendations in the Appache Junction area. Our interest are cycling ( not mountain biking ) hiking, fishing and I am into photography and woodturning. Just being in this area takes care of most of the interest. So that pretty much means a campground that has a wood shop with a lathe.
We are planning to be in this location for the month of February, maybe a little longer.

Any suggestions, watch outs, links or recommendations would be helpful.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Go to two places for two weeks each: Lost Dutchman State Park and Usery Maricopa County campground. Both are close to fishing, fabulous hiking, big sites and awesome scenery.

2X on Lost Dutchman. Some nice hikes, ranger programs, and the view of the Superstition Mountains is great!

  • X-2 We like Canyon Vistas just down the road in Gold Canyon ...
  • We stayed at Shiprock RV a couple of years ago. It is really nice and the people were friendly. I saw people meeting several times a week for bike rides. It was interesting to us that many of these campgrounds do not let your dog do any of his business inside the campground. There was a big pack of dogs and people rushing to get out of the campground and across the road every morning for the dog's bathroom break.
  • Not a big fan of Valle Del Oro in Mesa(too big a park), they have one of the nicest wood shops I have seen. I stay at Canyon Vistas, their shop is tiny in comparison.

  • and has pet spots available as well?

Some RV places have a limited number of pet spots and have a waiting list for those spots.
