we are so excited that we were able to get a spot for an entire week in September just last week, must have been someone who cancelled and we just plain got lucky.

so here is a question if anyone has been down the keys. we are not planning on towing a car so has anyone rented an auto or a scooter, not sure if the scooter is a good idea to go to key west, but looking to take a drive or two to key west.

any help is appreciated.

OMG still soooooo excited to go.

The nearest car rental is in Marathon Airport. You can take the bus up to Marathon. No scooter rental until Key West and those are pretty much daily for riding around town. They aren't going to let you run them up to Bahia Honda. Your best bet is to plan an entire day and ride the bus back and forth to Key West, unless you want to see more of the Keys. It's cheap and they run on a regular basis. Enjoy, it's hot in September. Chuck

Oh wow! That's so cool!

I've always wanted to stay there but haven't been lucky enough to snag a reservation for a site we'll fit into.

Have fun.

Seeing from some of your other posts that you have a 19' RV, you should be OK driving to and around Key West. Be prepared to spend a lot of extra money, if you want to park in a parking lot. I was down there a number of years ago in a 24' class C, and I believe they wanted $20 or $25 at a lot. We ended up just going over to the beach and parking there for free, for a few hours in the afternoon. There are plenty of places in Key West where you can rent scooters. Definitely would advise against riding a scooter from Bahia Honda to Key West.

There is public transportation in the a Keys. You can catch a bus at the entrance.
Be aware it can take a few hours to get to Key West if there is traffic.

It is a wonderful place! We have stayed there a couple of times. You will need a car. However, there is a shuttle available!
