Baltimore Riots- angry and grateful

So we drove 350 miles to see the White Sox for the first time in our lives.

They were to play the Baltimore Orioles tonight.
There was trouble in the city Saturday night but calm was restored Sunday.

The campground attendant told us we could easily get to the ballpark from Cherry Hill. She thought we meant the ball field for the Washington Nationals which IS easy to get to from Cherry Hill campground.

Not so easy but possible is to get from Metro bus, to metro, to light rail to Camden Yards. They thought 1 hour would do it.
We thought 3 hours was safer. 1 1/2 hours into delayed metro rails, we skipped to a taxi and $65 later, we jumped out of the taxi, shut the door and he screeched off.

10 seconds later, an Oriole fan walked up and said, "they just cancelled the game 10 minutes ago"!. Sure enough, a small group of police in full battle gear was at the front.

We were a few blocks from the rioting. We began asking people on the street how to get out of there. Turns out that every taxi and Metro driver had already bugged out. We were stranded out on the street with very few walking and NO taxi in site.

We went to a Hilton thinking a taxi would show up and thankfully an employee there finally got us a taxi ride. Just $140 later, we were dropped off at our campsite.

I realize we have problems. I think I see both sides of this issue.
I don't understand after all that has happened in the past months that no one in Baltimore knows how to handle a crisis.

I just read that a credible source announced a riot on the internet hours before the game and just after the funeral. Either they should have had that area secured or cancelled the darn thing before people started out.

What a wasted trip. Vacation time is few and far between. This really chaps my behind. 5 vacation days wasted for this.

(and we have tickets for tomorrow night just to add insult to injury)

I will never come back to this place and if by some miracle or hostage situation would change it, I will come alone. Wife is beyond angry.
Just checked our bank account, we can retire today if I stop spending money now.

It might not totally remove the disappointment, but one of the options being discussed is for the Orioles to play Tuesday's game at Nationals Park, which is right on the METRO. Don't know when they'll decide, probably by morning. There's also talk of playing a day game or 4:00PM start at Camden Yards, and I've also heard they might play a doubleheader at either location. Lots of confusion right now. You might have to get new tickets if they play in Washington (and get a refund from Orioles), but it's a nice park and attendance would probably be light so you'd have your pick of seats. On the other hand, I'm not sure how prepared Nats Park would be for an unscheduled game when the team is on the road. In any event, check the news for details, or just do more of the DC tourist stuff. Good luck.

L2R, I am happy you are safe. To put it in perspective, a few hundred people are destroying a city of 600K+ people. It is around .05% of the population that is rioting. It is amazing how so few thugs can have such a huge long lasting impact on a city.

Yes.

The cops who do those things should be prosecuted as criminals, lust like everyone else.

L2R, just be thankful you don't have to live with those ANIMALS. They weren't protesting, they were looting, stealing, and out to maim or kill policemen, and destroy public and privet property. I am much more comfortable living in the country among the four legged critters and even an occasional rattle snake.

3oaks, read the details, and tell me about how, if this were done to your daughter or son, you would roll over and take it.
I have been watching it, all live on television.
The rioters, CRIMMINALS, weren't protesting Freddie Gray's death. They are using his death as an excuse to carry out their rampage. Even Freddie Gray's family didn't support them like you're doing. :R

fla-gypsy and others plainly see the reality of the situation also. Why is it so hard for you to comprehend? Were you one of the criminals?

Whatever!!!

These Forums are RV Forums where people come to discuss RV topics looking for info.

IMHO if you want to 'talk' about political and criminal issues there are many other places to do this.

Not trying to diminish the issue. I get it. I really do this ins't the forum to start a political debate no matter how much you hate to bring it up.

My frustration is about how it is being handled on both ends. Neither side is helping.

Baltimore area will NEVER see my money again.

But as expected this did turn Political!!

There are plenty of places to discuss 'political things' ....but an RV Forum???

Please.......

You are correct. I am telling my camping story and it became political. I didn't do it, I got caught in it. And whileI am venting, it might keep someone else from doing the same thing.
Sorry if it offended you.

How about the 72 yr old deputy who bought his way in to the sheriffs dept and used his real gun instead of the tazer. Charged with manslaughter but then he asked and they let him go to the Bahamas or somewhere for an extender vacation. Probably to mourn the tragedy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Cops are just people and most are trying to do a good job but you do have to admit some of what is happening and being exposed is pretty outrageous.

Not long ago they shot the woman in her car who had run into the barrier near the white house. I haven't seen another thing about the Secret service high commanders who were drunk and ran into the barriers. They told them to go home and they drove away.

I sent them an email through whitehouse.gov and told them if they needed any volunteers who could actually protect the prez just give me a call. I mean even a worn out old fart like me could come in sober and not let anyone get across the lawn and near the white house.
Just amazing

L2R, glad you are safe.

I can not understand the rioting and looting. Property and businesses burned and destroyed that were in no way connected to the death of the young man.
